La Popi

At the age of five she began her career in the world of dance with an inclination towards flamenco. From 1981 to 1993 she studied and completed her dance training. In 1987 she received the attention of Merche Esmeralda, who leads her to the Marta de la Vega academy where she studies for the Madrid Conservatory, obtaining excellent results. She has received classes at the Amor de Dios School with the following teachers: El GüitoManolete, Carmela Greco, Belén Maya, Belén Fernández, Carmen Cortés, Antonio Canales, Adrián Galia. In other disciplines of dance she has studied with Julia Estévez, Haydeé Cayeto Vela, Nadine Boisaubert, Julia Olmedo, Pedro Azorin, Monica Runde.

As a professional she has joined the following companies: El Güito (“Raíces flamencas”, “Solo flamenco”, “A puerta abierta”, “Mis recuerdos”); Manolete (“Flamenco soy”, “Mi camino”); Manolete and El Güito (“Puro y jondo”); Carmen Cortés (“Yerma,” “Salome”, “Racial”); Blanca del Rey (“Flamenco a bocajarro”); Joaquín Grilo (“Jácara”); Rafael Amargo (“Poeta en Nueva York”); Pepe Flores (“Mi verdad“); Domingo Ortega (“…Y ahora me voy con mi mare”); José Manuel Huertas (“Formas flamencas”); Lola, Carmela and José Greco (“Flamenco”); Spanish Suite (“Parque España”).

She has performed in the following stages: Teatro Chatelet (Paris), Caen Theater (France), Belen Cultural Center (Lisbon), Lope de Vega Theater (Seville Biennial), Albèniz Theater (Madrid), Villamarta Theater (Jerez de la Frontera), Teatro Alhambra and Teatro Isabel La Católica (Granada), Teatro Metropolitan (Mexico City), Teatro Romano de Mérida, Palau de la Música (Valencia), Cuevas de Nerja, Teatro Romano de Spoleto (Italy), Irvine Barclay Theater, Taormina Congress Hall (Italy), and other important theaters in Europe and the United States participating in different festivals.

From 1996 she performs as soloist in the tablaos Casa Patas, Las Carboneras, Corral de la Morería, Café de Chinitas, Corral de la Pacheca, Alandalusí and Axarquía, in Madrid, and in different cities of the world.

At the moment she is part of the tablaos previously mentioned, combining it with the performances in the company of Pepe Flores.

She imparts her didactic experience in Spain and different parts of the world.
